Money is raised and spent in the local community in a number of ways. Annual charity walks
are organised in Thetford Forest and raise thousands of pounds every year.
The Community Service Committee also organise an annual carol singing event in the town centre which runs over two days
and each year raises enough money to fund a day out for local old age pensioners.
Other successful fund raising events have included summer barbeques and an auction of promises. The auction of promises raised over £3,500 in one evening. We invited a professional auctioneer to manage the proceedings and some of the lots included a vintage car ride, a trip in a Tiger Moth bi-plane and a weekend in a luxury hotel. |

Concorde visits RAF Mildenhall in 1984. |
As well as annual events, some amazing 'one off' fund raising events have been organised, such
as the ambitious chartering of the supersonic air liner Concorde for a day back in 1984. The air liner cost £40,000 to 'hire' for day for three flights.
Enough willing passengers were found to leave the Rotary Club with over £7,000 profit for distribution to charities. Alan Palmer
recalls a personal account of this particular event and retired USAF Major Patrick Bodin recalls his memories of the day. |
